Tomtom USA Maps

I am off to America for a week in April and have toyed with the idea of using a tomtom. I can hire one from the car hire firm for £50 for the week or use my own 500 with a USA map from tomtom's website for €169. I know that if I bought the USA map from tomtom, I could resell it and possibly make most of my money back but does anybody have a better idea?

If your new map works without asking to be activated, I guess this could work. Reselling a used map is risky because a lot of buyers have been burned when they discover that they can't activate it.

In the Plus Services section of the TomTom site, you can purchase regions of the US for ?60 or all of North America for ?120.
