hi guys,

I have a new WM5 device which I am testing.

I used TT5 fine for the first time last night, and it was ok.

Today it won't work at all. Inside the house it's fine, if I take it outside and it starts to lockon to satellites it then hangs the ipaq up solid and I need to do a soft reset!

As it was a WM5 device I had to drag the cab files onto my device, install them, then upgrade to 5.21.

In the GPS applet of TomTom I have no options to configure the type of GPS device, so I'm wondering if I didn't install TomTom correctly?

In remove programs I have:

TomTom Contacts Navigation
TomTom TomTom
TomTom Navigator
TomTom ~Bluetooth support
TomTom Voice Jane

I guess I'm missing TomTom GPS, would that be correct and is that a cab file on the CDs?

regards,

Greg

to connect the in built gps youll have to select other wired gps and i think its sp2 though you i would download winfast navigator and fine what port the gps is on and select that comport in the menu give it a few seconds though as it will say no gps for a few seconds before finding the gps

or you could have a look throught the forum in the tomtom navigaotr board and then serch for anything relating to your device

I don't have any option to choose the type of GPS from within TomTom! Hence I'm thinking something is missing....

when you start up tomtom 5 tap the siganl meter in the left hand corner that will take you to the route sumery screen below the battery symbol youll see the streingth meter tap that again and that will take you to the the gps screen in the righthand bottom corner tap configure and tap the left/ right arrows to find the type of receiver you want then us select inthe bottom right hand corner this will take you to the com port screen select the comport you need for you device then select a baud rate of 4800 on the slider then select again

the other way to get to the comport screen is to tap the map tap change preferances then tap the arrow three times select show gps status and then follw the the rest of what ive put above

it might take awhile to find a signal make sure the ipaq is plugged in and has good veiw of the sky somtimes double glazed winows can effect a gps signal

As its a new device why not hard reset the PDA then just install using the 5,21 update - you don't need earlier versions for this to load, but you will need to copy the voice CAB off the CD and run it to get voices to work - which GPS unit are you using? is it an inbuilt device or external I only ask as I am not psychic - Cheers Mike

hi Mike,

Its an inbuilt device, I may well do a hard reset as I'm hopefully getting a ROM update to it.

I will have to see if I can find out exactly what type it is!

alix- When I get to the config screen all I see is an option to set degrees, minutes or seconds, nothing else.

I can't tell you the device I'm afraid, it's an unreleased product. I *think* the internal GPS is the same as the one currently in the hw65xx series.

Just installed and re-installed the apps, no joy, so trying a hard reset Sad

hi Mike,

I suspect the reason may be that the version of the nav application on the device is actually later than the currently publically available version!!!

so I think I actually downgraded it by installing 5.21!!

regards

Greg
