Hi
Also change your setting -> System -> Battery Type -> NiMH.

The rechargable batteries have a lower voltage so it uses this setting to try to determine how much power remains in the battery. If you put 1.5v Alkaline batteries in the unit and tell it you have 1.2v NiMH batteries then it will show the alkaline batteries as having more power.
Likewise if you put NiMH batteries in there and tell it you have alkalines then it will think they are low on power when they aren't (they just have a lower voltage output) _________________ Gone fishing! |

it sends a signal to the gps satellites which then transfers this data back to garmin's hq who harvest this data, along with data from all the times you've gone over the speed limit or driven to the local brothel, and your file just grows and grows.

Think about it for a second, though - if you were some big, evil meglomaniac organisation - how would you achieve that...
Introducing gadgets that know your exact position, that people would take everywhere, and could magically "beam" that info somewhere ;-), and sell them for an easily afforable price...
Not that I'm paranoid - oh, no.
Think about, it, though - eh, um - <Walter Sobchek> am I wrong? Am I wrong? </Walter Sobchek>
Anyway, I've gotta go now, I need to make a new foil hat, and it's time for my treatment <bzzzt... NO CARRIER |

Is it safe to keep the batteries in the unit and also have it connected to the ciggy charger from the car? Or doe the batteries need to come out. I have 2300Mah batteries and they last very well, just not had them in and used the charger the same time.... |

the ciggy power supply doesn't actually charge the batteries - it essentially switches batteries off while it's plugged in to external power. shouldn't be a problem leaving batteries in in the short-term, just don't leave them in when if you're not using it for a month or so!

Have a look at these AA 2700mAh batteries, not sure how good they are, but the price is good for 8 plus a free case.

I have been using some 800mAh rechargables and they have been fine for me.
I have the unit connected to the cars supply when in use so the batteries are only for the switch off countdown and a little bit of time when I am loading POI's etc.
I am finding I have to charge them every couple of weeks which is fine by me.
