I,m thinking of going down the hard wired gps mouse route due to my pda not having bluetooth.

I have read here and in the media, that holder on the w/screen left in the car, often are a red flag to our lowlifes, who will break in just to see if the unit is left in the glovebox.

again with a wired mouse, i dont want to be setting up evertime i get in the car, i would just like to plug the discreet lead in and go.

I have speakers set into my dash near the a pillars, and was wondering if i removed the grill, and set the mouse into the mount where the speaker lives and replaced the plasic grill, would it still work??, or does it have to be in the open on the dash?? if so could i put some black duck tape over it to hide it near the windscreen/ dah join (black bordered windscreen)

any help would be appreciated

Mart

i don't think it would work to be as it needs quite a clear view of the sky (i suppose you could try and see as it won't hurt ) but i have got mine hidden behind my tax disk in the left corner of the windscreen ,although you can still see it it not as obvious as in plain site

Basically its a gps module with a cable that connects to your pda or phone,

it is called a mouse, as it looks very similar to a mouse but minus the ball

if you do an ebay search there are loads on there

Hi,

Thought you might be interested in my observations on a "Polstar" wired GPS (uses Sony chipset) that I bought from an eBay shop for £37 (delivered). It's quite small, has a couple of metres of cable, contains a magnet and claims to be waterproof.

It basically works quite well, and initially seemed to be significantly better at acquiring signals than my other GPSs. However, I then discovered that this was because when I moved my other GPSs close to the Polstar (inches to a couple of feet) they stopped working (i.e. receiving satellites). It seems that this Polstar radiates interference that can block other GPSs, which is a problem I'd heard of before with another brand. Has anyone else discovered this?

So, in summary, it's quite a reasonable device (but not of Sirf standard) and good value since it also acts as a car charger/supply for the phone/PDA. But beware if you want to use or compare another GPS nearby.

Cheers, Alan.
