Can someone kindly point me in the right direction or at least reassure me that I'm not going mad!
The bluetooth TT2 charging cradle works fine sitting on my desktop and working from the cigarette adaptor in the car - both situations it charges the GPS receiver fine.
I decided to get this cradle hard-wired into my car using the Tom Tom supplied permanent power cable - the one with a fuse unit attached and has a mini 2-pin sqaure connector to the cradle.
Wiring it into the car was not a problem, 12V supply, checked that 12V was indeed being measured on the mini 2-pin cable. But IT WON'T CHARGE THE UNIT Why the hell not?? It works fine as I say with the round connector (5V?) but refuses to charge with the mini 2-pin cable - even though I know 12V is getting through the cable.
Has anyone any suggestions or am I looking at a faulty GPS receiver cradle? Help! _________________ Back the Boys, and make some noise!!

Do you get any power indication on the GPS itself when cradled and hooked up to 12v? My only thought is that maybe the 12v feed is perhaps ignition controlled ? AIUI, when in the cradle and connected to a permanent ignition controlled 12v feed the GPS will switch on and off with the car.
If none of this applies then it is possible that you have a faulty cradle, with power applied and BT GPS out of the cradle, are you getting any voltage on the charging contacts themselves? _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi Darren, no there is no indication of power to the unit. I've tested it on an ignition controlled live 12V as well - still nothing.
There is no voltage on the contacts of the cradle when using the permanent power cable. With the 5V cigarette cable, there is 5V measured across the end contacts of the cradle. I'm assuming from your reply that I do indeed have a faulty cradle
Do you know of a Tom Tom email address or is it worth speaking to them in person - phone number?
Thanks. |

My small black clip on the end of the cable was very stiff and it took quite a shove to get it to click home. It might be worth checking it is fully seated. |
