Just set up my dads Go500 but found that it seems to be missing a lot of data:

Some of the problems:
1) It does not show many names when browsing the Map making it impossible to tell what each pink bit is. It has major ones like Edinburgh and Glasgow but not much else. You can zoom in and see street names in these towns and villages but not where they actually are.

2) Lots of small places dont exist - Leitholm, Eccles Greenlaw just a few I have just tried

3) The streets in these places can be seen from the map (zooming in) but you cant navigate there as the town/village does not seem to exist to start finding it.

I just compared this to TT5 on my Ipaq and these all exist and I can view city/village names on the map without problem although it is a 4700 with the higher res.

Any ideas what's going on?

( I am sure it should ask me for the TT # on the card but it hasn't done that either. I ran the patch for 4.21 although it still shows 4.20 on the version.)

Pls Help.

Names will appear but only at the "right" zoom. Trial and error is needed and it's not satisfactory.

Current system is 5.42 - free download from the TT site. Run the update from the setup.exe on the download. Don't leave the TT CD in the drive while you do the upgrade. There is a bug that copies the old system from the CD if it is in the slot.

Have been experimenting with the Zoom but really not appearing atall. I put it down to the res of the Go compared to my PDA.

However try and navigate to Main Street in Leitholm - you cant as Leitholm does not exist. However I can on my PDA as it apears under "Leitholm (Coldstream)" or any address is Greenlaw : "Greenlaw (Duns)" on the Go these place names dont exist, its like a completely different map :o(

Have I perhaps missed something on the CD as I removed it from the drive and applied the update before really doing anything with it. (Oh and slap in the head for the version, dont know where I got 4.21 idea from)

Cheers

I have no problem finding (in Browse Map) or Navigating To ..., either of those two places.

How are you using the Device?

In Browse Map, Tap the Find Icon > Next Page > City Centre and type in 'Leitho' and Leitholm(Coldstream) appears at the top of the list. Selecting this will show it on the map. If you zoom in you can see more detail. If you zoom out a little the name appears.

It uses the same maps as TTN5 and the program works in the same way.

using various options to try and find these places but they never come up. Exactly the same operation on my own TomTom (PDA) finds them no probs and as you say zoom to the correct level shows the place names.

But a very different story on the GO for no apparent reason.

Is there perhaps an activation or something I have missed that is giving me resticted maps?

Well I've just checked on my TTG Classic which has the updated GB Plus map.

If I do a "Navigate To" - "Address" then both Leitholm, Main Street & Greenlaw work fine, no problems here.

PS Nice to know there is another TT user locally, I'm over in Kelso :D

Hiya

Def looks like something is amis with the Maps on this unit - not sure if its because this is a Go500 compared to my Bluetooth TT5 but also noticed that lots of foreign names are appearing in the short lists aswell - Only main roads in EU so its not the wrong map or anything.

Will have a bash tonight to see if its perhaps using the wrong Maps. I assume that maps are on the CD aswell if I want to reinstall to the SD Card?

(Hi Neil, I am actually in Edinburgh but stay in Leitholm quite a lot as my parents have a house there. Just that they cant find how to get there with the TT but they already know that at least ;o)

Something weird going on - All Go500 units from Dixons and Currys have the same problem - i.e. it thinks its in the EU and wont show the likes of Greenlaw or Leitholm...

Gonna post a new thread with a revised subject on this!

New thread posted -

Also my work around - borrow a Go300 SD Card, Copy it and stick that in your 500 until issue resolved...

Another point - with the new map NOW it asks for activation from Tom Tom but it never did on any of the other units with the original 500 cards...

That's because the original 500 Maps were pre-activated by TT.
