When Pockets GPS announced the POI capure for Safety Cameras utility it was also stated that a general POI capture utility was also being developed so that if you were at a particular location you could capture the co-ordinates. Any news on this development? |

Do you actually need that?
Sorry if I'm missing something, but why not just use what is on the TomTom already?
You can store your current position as either a Favourite or a POI, just by tapping the "GPS position" icon (its on the second page if you haven't switched your menus around.
In more detail...
As a Favourite:
Tap to go to to Menu page 1 / Add favourite / forward arrow / GPS position / name it.
As a POI:
Tap to go to to Menu page 1 / Change preferences / forward arrow / Manage POI / Add POI / Scroll up or down and select category / forward arrow / GPS position / then name it.
Easiest way is to store as a Favourite first, then, at your leisure, copy it from the Favourites to the POI category by:
Menu page 1 / Change preferences / forward arrow / Manage POI / Add POI / Scroll up or down and select category / Favourite / select it / then name it properly
Of course you can do that to save cameras too. If you start a new POI category called "New Cameras" or whatever, you can then easily email it to them to update the database. |

I have managed to create a personal POI list of places I go to from time to time using poiedit. When I want to add to my personal list, I have to get TTG to give me the coordinates which are written down. When I connect to the TTG I then need to add the the new place and enter the coordinates. I don't always have pen and paper and am a lazy so it would be nice just to capture the coordinates and later enter them in my personal poi. When the article about the camera poi came out it did say there would be a version for capuring poi's other than saftey cameras, which sounded just the job.
I have tried the method you said using the POI route. Just what I wanted, adds to my personal POI and it is the exact co-ordines! I can see now I can create empty POI OV2 files with appropriate names and just follow your instructions. As with all things, easy when you know how! I guess that the great thing about these sort of forums, simple and easy answers from other users. Many thanks |
