iPAQ 1910 vs TomTom Navigator 3

Can anyone help a novice at this stuff? I bought an iPAQ 1910 with TomTom Navigator 3 installed (with maps on SD card), and a Haicom HGP GPS cradle.
Somehow, I've managed to knacker the Navigator 3 programme (by taking the battery out of the PDA for a while I think).
I downloaded Navigator 3.07 off the TomTom website, and loaded it again, but now if I try to run it it says: 'No maps found, please install and activate an original TomTom Navigator 3 map first'.
It did not ask for any codes or activation during the re-loading.
The map files etc. appear to be on the SD card still, but I've not got any CDs.
Do I have any choice apart from buying a CD?

You probably bought a pirated copy. Yes, the best recommendation we can give is to buy the CDs (TomTom 5, that is)
