|
|
I have a Dell X51V PDA and I am looking for advice on which satnav package to get.
It will mainly be used in the car but occasionaly on foot so will be looking at a bluetooth receiver.
I will need maps of southern europe, esp Italy and S. France.
I have looked at the TomTom site but the X51V is not on the support hardware list which is a pity as TomTom is about the only product I have really heard about.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.
TTN 5.21 will run fine on the Dell. But there are many more programs around, have a look on this site (on the left menu we have a GPS software link) _________________ Lutz

Although I'm reluctant to recommend Destinator PN too much due to its quirkyness and nightmare POIs (ok if you're prepared to do some serious work with it) it does have one good feature. It gives a shadow cast around the navigation arrow relative to the time of day and the position of the sun. I would presume that without forward movement its difficult to get your bearings in a lot of programs. With PN the shadow your body casts on the floor can be lined up with that on the screen and you should be facing the right way. As a man who crawls to the car I can't say I've tried it so research it before you dive in.
I would also research the exact nature of what you mean by 'on foot'. If you mean street level navigation thats one thing but if you mean hiking or similar you might be better to look at a vehicle based package for car and a seperate specialist one for hiking. But as I don't have a beard then I don't qualify....... (slips into flame-proof jacket 8O ) _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

For Hiking or in my case mountain biking then memory map is great.
For the road or walking in a city etc then Tom Tom 5 is perfect as it has settings for walking but not for off road.
In my opinion I would avoid Navigon 5.1, I have used it & I would not recommend it to anyone. |
