Do you think that the Rider should have been supplied with full euro maps for the price? I like the idea and was considering buying but the fact no euro maps and only preinstalled with a 128 SD. Will any of you lot be splitting with your cash to buy one of these? I seen Tim's on his NICE sprint :P and i would say it looks the best for bikers but the general feeling i get from most bikers is its expensive for not having euro maps.
Anyway would you buy or you giong to hold back and wait for price drop? _________________ Regards

Hmm, what price is it?
I have seen it for £600 which I think is way too expensive for what you get. I would definately expect full EU maps preloaded for this price. _________________ Gone fishing! |

yeah most places are about £600 which i myself think is a bit steap and if tomtom where going to get tourers using their satnav i would have expected euro maps as standard. _________________ Regards

As a comparison, I could have ordered a Triumph Navigator for my SprintST. It is a Garmin 2610 and doesn't come with any helmet audio equipment but does come with a dedicated motorcycle bracket and power lead. I'm assuming it comes with CityNavigator with full unlock and it costs £899.
That being said, I too would have liked a one-piece map for the RIDER, a la GO700. Swapping maps is a bugbear of mine. Navman and Gamin (there may be others) can stitch maps together and make them routable so why can't TomTom?
Oh, and I'm glad you liked the bike, Steven. _________________ Tim |

I'm sure when it was first announced they did say it would have full Euro maps just like the Go 700 At £600 with just maps of your local region it's a complete ripoff Basically it's a One in a tougher case with some minor software tweaks and yet it's cost 2½ times the price It seems as there is less competition in the 2 wheeled market TomTom have decided to bump the price up |

You can use a larger SDCard in the Rider - which means once you buy the seperate maps (at additional cost thanks to TomTom's greed on that side of things) then you can load them on the SDCard and just switch using the complex menu's...
Of course, you have to be at a stop to do that, as the 'drive mode' that the rider has means you wouldn't be able to switch maps automatically - but having a pitstop for changing maps isn't too bad a thing - we all have to fill up with petrol eventually! _________________ Keba

Only £899? Ah, come on Tim. I'm sure you could have found it for more than that.
The 2610 is £520 in Comet and comes with full unlock. I think they do a BMW branded version of it at a reassuringly expensive price too. I'm not sure what you get for the extra money, maybe a mount and wiring but RAM mounts can be had for about £30. _________________ Gone fishing! |

And at aspidshop.com they have the garmin 2720 EU at £559.00 if you have a valid vat no.
Starts making the Rider look a tad expensive

I wasn't aware they had released the Rider there yet. It should do really well there, I would imagine. |

Perhaps the above is is a rather harsh interpretation of the "rules" in this case. If jonathon25 were, say, to tell me about his hire site by PM and I then mentioned this possibly useful service to fellow bikers in a thread, would this constitute "advertising" |
