I bought a GlobalSat bluetooth GPS unit and have the tomtom 5 software installed on my iPAQ 2200.

I have a GPS info utility on my iPAQ that can find the GPS unit. It has COM8: Serial8 and 38400 baud as settings.

However, I don't think there is that option on tomtom 5 is there?

They have things like COM3, COM6 etc but I can't see COM8. There are two options saying Bluetooth Serial Port... at the end, whatever that is.

Help!

Thanks,

Jon

I have just found out that the two options saying "Bluetooth Serial Port..." actually say "Bluetooth Serial Port 5" and "Bluetooth Serial Port 8" when you hold the stylus on them.

So, is the issue I have that I need to make sure the pairing requires a password or something? I mean the utility I have can find the device and satellites but not the tomtom software.

Jon, make sure you have stopped the GPS utility, before trying to find the GPS unit in Tomtom. Before running TomTom make sure you have gone into the Bluetooth setup, manager and select connect to the GPS unit (it must be listed if your util can see the data), run up TT then go to preferences/ Show GPS status and select the configure option "other bluetooth GPS, then select the Bluetooth serial port (Another tip is to change to landscape mode - this way you can see all the text) - Mike

I have done that but it still doesn't find the satelites. Does it need to have authentication set on the security tab for the device?

If I look under Outgoing Connections I can see:

BT-GPS-313C0C
BT-GPS COM Port

But there is nothing under Incoming Connections. Is this right?

Jon, glad you got it working, for the benefit of others, please do not try to get the sat nav working inside a building, some units work but the signal is very weak, take it outside and it should be far quicker - Mike
