On the latest camera database there specs camera showing on the A1 just south of Thirsk ( I think). There certainely are masts there but do not look like specs camers. They have 2 cameras hanging from the top of the mast in glass balls, not the usual looking specs camera.
Are these a new type of specs camera or just surveillance cameras?

Good point Surfgeek - was thinking about posting on this myself.
I noticed these last week and was going to post about them. I make sure that my speed was at exactly 70 on that stretch. However, as you say, they are not the usual type of specs - looked more like security cameras to me! :D
They are on the stretch south of Boroughbridge.
Does anyone more knowledgable know about these or confirm whether they are in fact speed cameras?

Sorry all - found this thread with search - perhaps it should be in the speed cams forum? |

I think you will find they are the Average Speed Cameras, there should be several spaced over set distances and if you average more than the permitted speed limit, expect to receive a special letter in the post. |

These cameras are part of the Highways Agency CCTV network and are used to update the electronic signs on the A1(M).
They are NOT specs cameras and the producer of the PocketGPS database has been advised.
Hopefully these will be removed from the next database release. |

Thank you for this Colin. I didn't think they looked like SPECS cameras, confirmed by looking at Border_Collie's reference to speedcheck.co.uk - however, since they were in the trusty PocketGPS db I thought I had better make sure I stayed at exactly 70!
Thanks for your input.
