Sad

Sorry to jump straight in with a post on this site after only just joining but I really need some help.

I have tomtom GPS with software vs 5 and have subscribed to the traffic update service.

I have recently purchased a 'Three' 3g mobile which works lovely with my IPAQ (via bluetooth), connecting to the net, but does not allow tomtom to connect. I now know the reason for this, and that is that the price plan and add on's I have only allow me access to Three's selected websites and not the tomtom servers. The rememedy for this is to pay an additional £45 a month rental - needles to say I am taking the phone back as I am allowed to do this by three and by my the supplier. I know that there have been other posts on this so will not go into futher details on this.

What I need to know is what to get in terms of provider and tarrif etc. I am aware that most of the providers offer 3g and or GPRS connection but I do not know which ones give full blown internet access. Do you have this working already and if so who do you use and what tarrif please?

Many thanks for any help you can give.

I'm on Orange and it all works fine.

I pay an extra £8 per month on top of my talk plan for 10Mb of Orangeworld access.

I use the Traffic travelling to and from London each week, that equates to about 10 hours driving per week. At that usage rate I use less than 1Mb; the rest gets used for emails and other stuff.

I meant to add, the biggest problem I have with it is that the phone will only connect by BT to EITHER the PDA OR the BT Headset, not both at the same time. It's a real pain, but is being discussed elsewhere on the forum

Vodafone allow full internet access on any tariff as far as I can tell. I have accessed all sorts of sites via them but have not tried the TomTom servers.

I have an O2 data only tariff for work which I also use for Traffic. We've been asked to trial T-mobile's services and here's my usage for the last 3 weeks per my iPaq's Bluetooth Phone Manager software.

It totals about 1.5mb. If you're planning to use GPRS for Traffic only then I would advice on a Pay As You Go type tariff.

You will see that usage on journeys above an hour and a half is relatively high, that's because I was held up on the M1 and kept on pressing the Traffic update button.

Thank you to everyone who has replied so far.

I will hopefully switch to another provider tomorrow. Not sure who yet but the info here will help.

Thanks again

Sadly 'THREE's data service is operated as a walled garden with only certain sites permitted, TomTom's Traffic servers are not one of them.
