|
|
Does anyone know if there's an API or programmers guide for how to output in the TomTom OV2 file format?
I have a heap of data online on a php/MySQL website and would like to output the data live rather than having to create an ASC file then use POI Edit to create the OV2 files manually.
Has anyone created OV2 POI files from online scripts before?
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but I couldn't see any other section that was relevant. |

The OV2 format is described in the SDK documentation. (You may find that on the TomTom web site)
However, it doesn't completely describe the way that MakeOV2 works, so you will see inferior performance for large numbers of POIs if you use the method described in the SDK.
Have a look here www.licour.com for some more details... _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the tip. I searched the net and the tomtom site and couldn't find anything useful at all. Looks like the OV2 format is massively compelx to output too, joy
I was amazed that no one has written a php class that does the same as the makeov2.exe yet.
I'll give it a go later on to see how well things can be written. At least now I have some idea of what the data should look like
Thanks. |

Let us know when you're done - we'd like to use that code too.
I can give you an offline introduction into the structure. Send me a PM if interested. _________________ Lutz

Well I've got some code that's almost working, I'm just somewhat unsure as to exactly how the latitude and longitude are encoded into their respective 4 bytes.
The PDF for the TomTom SDK differs in its desription from what I've seen elsewhere.
Laurent over at Lacour.com has given me some help with the way that the system works which has helped transpose things to a (mostly) functional PHP set. |

Okay, you have mail - finished the work today, all works wonderfully. There's no checking to ensure that the input is valid in there, but it's not really needed (at least not yet).
It'll take input from a string or a local file, and then output to a properly encoded .ov2 file. ;)
Have fun. |
