How to charge iCN510

Am I missing something here?

Each time I plug in my iCN510, the green LED automatically comes on and it goes to power mode. Now, how do I go about getting it to charge? If I switch the power button off, it just goes to power-save mode and green LED light remains.

I want to charge my 510 at home. How do I do it? Any ideas? I don't want to use the satnav, but just charge it............

The green light shows that it is in charging mode.

So plug it in, the green light confirms, and turn off the Navigation Program.

Hi
Just read your post. Turned on 510 & battery warring came up on screen. I plugged it into the mains in standby mode.
Amber power light came on, it will change to Green when fully charged. (It has always done this). I am not an electrician, but my belief is that, it dose the battery good if you let it fully discharge from time to time & not top it up all the time as you get a turm ‘battery memory’ this is common with rechargeable’s and when they reach the minimum top up memory the battery will start to shut down. Giving you perhaps 1 hr duration in stead of several hrs.

If, as I believe, there is a lithium-ion battery in the 510 then doing a complete discharge is not a good thing. It's chemical nature is totally different to a rechargeable ni-cad battery, and your advise would apply to that type.

As I said I am not an electrician so if I am wrong I apologise for any miss directions. I have just read the manual and it quotes that in charging mode it is amber & goes to green when fully charged.
Sorry for any misleading comments as it was not intentional.

How to prolong lithium-based batteries
A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges.I will now change my charging habits with my ICN 510

STILL HAVING PROBLEMS....................

When I plug my iCN510 into the charger and go to the Harware>Power Status screen, it says that 'External Power Status' is 'ON' and 'Internal Backup Battery Charge' as 'CHARGING' however it doesn't show any percentage. This subsequently contradicts what the instruction manual says. Likewise, the LED is still coloured green and not amber.

Any ideas? I know that the battery isn't charged as it is will not switch on at all without an external power source

Hi.
Go to More Settings, Hardware, Power options, uncheck both settings, escape & save settings. You may have it set on internal 10 seconds, which will give you the impression that it is not working.

Should the battery tab on the back of the Navman be switched to ON or OFF when charging?

OK...............I still can't get it to charge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :x

The battery switch on the read of my Navman iCN510 is switched to on. I plug it into the mains and it loads maps etc.... Then it goes to the menu page. When it's on this page, I push the power button so that the screen goes off. The green LED remained illuminated. Now, I left my unit to charge on mains for 24 hours, however when I unplugged the unit from the mains it still didn't switch on without an external power source.

Where am I going wrong?

Well it's still not working so I don't know what is wrong with it. I will post my problem to Navman's technical support, but their website is down at the moment so will have to try later.

OK, here's what the technical "support" have to say..........

"We do not offer any technical support for our products that are purchased via eBay, please refer to www.navman-store.com where you will find details of our policy with regards to eBay."

Oh well................back to square one!
