I am an user having trouble with the data files. I have sorted out the right one to use but my computer is convinced that it is an excel file. Notepad does not work with it, even if I open that program first and access the data files from notepad - it still thinks that it is excel. I have copied and pasted the data into notepad from excel which is my only way of accessing the file, but the 7,000 lines come out in a jumble and some of the initial characters are missing. Obviously it will takes me some time to go through all those lines and put them right. What am I doing wrong? If I do succeed in reformatting the thing -it will then be saved with a .txt suffix presumably. Will my navman be able to cope with that?

It sounds like you're picking up on the wrong files.

There can be 3 setups for speed cameras.

The first is a single file that contains all the cameras together, without any reference to what type. This is named pocketgps_uk_sc.csv and found in the 'single file version/csv file/other' folder.

Second is the 5 file version that divides the cameras into types. Gatso, Mobile, Specs, Redlight and Temporary. These you will find in the 'csv files/other' folder.

Third is the full 18 file version that divides the Gatso and Mobile files into speed zones. There are 7 each of the Gatso and Mobile files. These are found in the 'speed zoned/gatso/csv' and speed zoned/mobile/csv' folders. Add to these the Specs, Redlight and Temporary files as above.

I have not included the Continental file because you will only need this if going to the continent.. But should you want it , it's in the 'csv files/other' folder.

The .bmp files are in 'ov2 bmp files' Folder or for alternatives the 'alternative bmp files' Folder.

You only need 2 files, a .csv and a .bmp for each group.

Remember to Delete (or REM out) the Header Lines in the .csv files with Notepad.

When you've decided which set you want, use SmartST Desktop to import each .csv file and associate with it the correct .bmp file. These are the only files you need.

In case you haven't read them the instructions are here - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-navman.php

The latest advice, for those who are unable to edit the .csv files, is to use the .asc files. These will import directly into Navman's POIEditor without the need for any editing. I'm not sure if these come in speedzoned format or just one for all Gatsos, though.

Your computer is right; .csv files will open by default in Excel, but you should be able to force the use of Notepad. Open the file using Notepad as you have been doing, then when you come to save it after editing, use Save as.... and then change the File type from .txt to All File types in the bottom box (below the file name box.

Why not use Excel, I do and just resave as a .csv file?
