I have been suffering intermitent problems with the map display on my 168/TT5.

With the signal strength showing a strong signal, the map display jumps around, sometimes showing a completley green screen. On other times the map displays a position ahead of where I am and waits for me to catch up with it before continuing to track my position. The last time this happened, the map showed me on the entrace to a roundabout but the distance count down (from approx 300yards) seemed to more accuratly reflect my approach to the roundabout.

The supplier of my system recons the problem is my car windscreen (the problem has occured in a Renault, Citroen & Jag) but even with the external antenna on the outside of my car I still saw the problem occur. I have been using the external antenna which seems to give a stronger signal but it doesnt prevent the problem.

As the signal strength always seems to be good or excellent and the map display does not loose its colour I would assume that the satellite reception is OK but that for some reason there is a conflict between the 168 & TT5. I notice that TomTom does not support the Mio.

With the exception of this problem I am really happy with the Mio & TomTom so I would love to get this problem sorted.

Has anybody else seen this or can any one sugest a fix?

Never had a problem like that with my Mio. Does it seems to happen more on uneven roads? If so could be a faulty Mio. Try tapping the Mio (not with a big hammer :D ) to see if it happens then. If it's not a dippy connection inside then, unless anyone else knows better then return it anyway, it shouldn't do that.

On Mitac Mio 168, Yakumo Delta 300 GPS, etc. with SiRF firmware version 2.4.12.09-XMitac-C4PROD2.0 0000003729, delivered since about June 2004, it could be caused by the SiRF static navigation setting being on by default.

The intention of this setting is to avoid jumping positions when driving by car and stopping at intersections.

It can be turned off with the program SP GPS View.
