Does position of wired receiver make a difference??

Does position of wired receiver in the car make a difference?

I attached my Leaktek 9813 receiver to my windscreen cradle to stop it moving around while I drive so instead of it lying flat / horizontal on my car dash, it is upright / vertical on the mount (still in clear view of the windscreen with no obstructions).

Will that affect the quality of the signal or number of satellites it picks up?
The reason I ask is because it appeared to struggle to lock onto a signal initially, although it was very cloudy (not sure if that affects the signal).

the ceramic patch antenna prefers to lie flat, perpendicular to the sky. Any other position will decrease the antenna gain.
