It looks like when there are more than 3 exists at a roundabout, my TT GO 500 gets the voice instructions wrong (e.g. it says take the 2nd exit when it should be the 3rd). However, the map shows the correct exit.
Has anyone else noticed this?.

Nope, my 300 always seems to get this right.
Can you post an example here, so that others can try it in demo mode on their units?
(Next question is how to find a postcode for a roundabout! ) |

Hi lasitha...
Yes... I have also noticed this has happened with my 500 on some roundabouts. Two of them are on my journey to and from work. Insructions wrong, maps OK.
Cheers

They are consistent. :D

That happens a lot. I would report that as a map error. _________________ Richard

So is this a map error or a software error?. |

Very odd.... I've just tried demoing several routes round that roundabout, and it gets them all dead right (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th exit). I assume we must be on the same map version? (mine is v562 and my software is still 5.200).
However, this sort of thing is something I've been wondering about for a while now. I find quite a few places where the way the roads actually look as you're driving isn't reflected in the way that the voice directions direct you.
As an example, try the junction where Mill Hill Road meets Station Road in Barnes. http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=51.4703&lon=-0.2449&scale=5000&icon=x
If I'm travelling west towards Barnes High Street, my right turn at this junction is completely ignored, and very confusingly, just as I approach it TomTom says "left turn ahead" which I assume must mean the turn onto the High Street itself which is actually the SIXTH left after the right turn.
The on-screen maps LOOK right (apart from the usual refusal to admit the existence of mini-roundabouts) but there must be additional data that affects how the voice reacts. So, should that sort of problem be reported to TeleAtlas or is it how TomTom have interpreted it so it's THEIR error? |

I have tried approching that roundabout from several directions and each time the TT GO got it wrong.
My versions are:- map: 571, app: 5.200, OS: 906, GPS: 1.21, Boot: 2.18
I did send an e-mail to TT Support a few days ago. No word from them yet.

My go has problems counting exits too.... If the roundabout has dual lanes in from single lane access roads.... make sense?, then it counts each lane as an exit! This happens in France too... 8O |

I have reported my problem to Tom Tom. Hopefully it will be fixed in the next release. |

I think the problem with Kingsbury roundabout is that it is counting the small service road as 1. It shouldn't but it does.

I have just been on a long trip through England and Wales and have repeatedly had the roundabout problem. Most often it says 'take first exit' when it means take second exit. The map always looks fine. Surely this must be a software fault if the maps are ok?

That happened on my TomTom Navigator v2 and v3 for Pocket PC PDA. The map view was correct but the count included roads onto roundabouts that weren't exits. I have only just upgraded to a TomTom GO 500 and haven't been around a roundabout with it yet, but I guess nothing has changed in that respect.
Perhaps it's not a bug but a design feature, TomTom might be thinking that we will count every road on or off a roundabout as we go around it regardless of whether it's an exit or not. |
