Off Topic
But it does involve GPS (just)

After reading and enjoying the that wonderful OT thread www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=27056, I decided to get one of the GPS programmes mentioned: http://gpsdash.com/overview.ppc2.php

Problem: It requires .Net Framework...

I have XP home and as the only user, the machine boots straight to the desktop, which is just the way I want.

However, when I install .Net Framework with no alterations to configurations, XP boots to the log on screen.

Is it possible to set the machine with .Net installed, to boot to desktop?

(I know his is the wrong place to ask but after an hour trying to search MSKB (!!!!) I decided to risk the wrath of you lot and hope some kind guru will assist. Please...

Thanks

Yes that'll be fine. Just remove the settings. The only time you must have a log on is if you are using IIS.

Cheers

Thanks Alan. What settings do I need to remove?

I don't think i have a need for IIS...

I would like to run one or two proggies that need .net.

Because of the multitude of monitoring progs running in the background (Zone alarm, Giant, Spysweeper, Norton AV, wlan, wireless mouse/keyboard et al) it take a little while to settle down and bed in. Therefore, when I switch on, I go for a pee or make a coffee whilst it does its thing... Having to wait for the bloody logon screen before I ablute, when I'm the only user is a pain in the rear!

Your guidance will be appreciated

Thanks
Donald

I forgot to add that I have uninstalled .Net framework so I cannot check but I take it that I should (karefully) mess about with control panel\admin or user settings once .net is back on board?

ControlPanel / User Accounts /

there should be a setting there to change the way you Log on, I have a few machines and they differ on some.

Thanks Alan - All I could find was the option to use XP or Classic method of Logging on.

maybe I should re install .Net and see if I can fix it - If not, I'll just have to uninstall it again...

Thanks for your guidance Alan
Regards
