I am very happy with Bluemedia BM6300 "dedicated, see response to Yasa" and it cost me £235 from Makro. See www.lowestonweb.co.uk for their price and user reports. Can also be bought in Halfords, Staples etc.

I recently purchased a Palm Tungsten T5 and Tom Tom Navigator for Palm as a bundled package for GBP 299 from PC World. Apart from a couple of simple teething probs setting up, it has proved very good. I have downloaded the Scandinavian maps as I have just come back from Norway where it got me to my chosen destination with no hiccups, apart from the T5 battery running down, but that was my fault for not plugging in the charger before I started on my journey which was over 4 hours in total.
I have also bought a 256 Mb SD card to supplement the very generous internal memory of the T5. I have the GB map on the internal memory of the T5 and the Scandinavian maps on the SD card. Both work perfectly.

The beauty of a PDA is you can use it when out of the car unlike the TT Go series which are a bit bulky to use this way. That said, some people don't like the idea of a separate GPS receiver but the Palm one that came with my kit is small enough to pop in a pocket and still seems to work that way. Plus you can use the T5 as a normal PDA as well if you need one of them as well.

I have now bought the upgrade to Tom Tom Navigator 5 for the Palm but have yet to install it as it came whilst I was in Norway and I only got back late on Saturday.

One word of caution. If you do buy the above package (assuming they are still available. I only bought mine a few weeks ago), when setting up the TT Navigator software on the T5, ignore the instructions and install the application software i.e. the stuff that runs the program, to the main memory and choose the 'external card' to install the maps. By 'external card' I don't mean the additional one that goes in the SD slot, but the T5's other internal memory. It is divided in to 2 separate memories. One is basically ROM memory and the other is 'internal memory', but the 'i m' is shown as 'external memory' during the TT set up process. I know this sounds confusing but it won't be when you come to set it up.

Hope this helps.
