My windscreen mount broke on the first removal
I emailed tomtom but no reply
The problem happens when you remove the mount from the screen
the clear sucker wants to stay stuck to the screen. So if you try to leaver
the sucker off "PING" the damm thing breaks.
The only way to remove the mount without breaking it is to place a knife under the sucker and move the knife around

You should never 'lever' the sucker off, you should use the release tab to break suction. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi
I might have misled you all by saying use a Knife to remove the sucker
I did not mean to leaver the sucker off with a knife.
What I meant to say was to push a knife between the glass and the sucker to release the sucker by moving the knife around the sucker as the sucker wants to stay stuck to the screen after using the release lever. |

It read as if you were suggesting you use the mount itself to 'lever' the sucker. This could very easily lead to a failure of the mount.
Either way, if you do use this technique don't and if you don't then don't start _________________ Darren Griffin

I can see how some people may have managed to break the bracket. I found by trial that
1)The sticker sticks very hard on the windscreen
2) Just releasing the lever is not enough
3) Pulling the tab does not necessarily work either
4) Putting knives down the back is a bad idea.
I now have a piece of white plastic card (an old redundant store type card is ideal) This will not damage the glass or the sticker pad, and releases the pad every time when pulling the tab alone fails to release the pad.
Bye the bye the police are saying that theft of Sat Navs is the highest rising vehicle crime in the UK...so keep them well hidden when not in use.

I find my car park permit (nice credit sized bit of plastic) is perfect for sliding under the suction cup to aid in the removal of the mount without causing any damage to anything. |

The other trick is to release the suction lever and then leave for a couple of minutes. This normally allows the tab to be used to remove the suction mount with minimal or no strain. _________________ Mike Barrett |

My problem's a different one...
The "joint" between the two "arms" doesn't seem to hold tightly enough, and thus my TTG keeps flopping down and ends up facing the floor of the car!
I have tightened it up using the thumbscrews, but can't tighten it enough to make it hold! I don't want to tighten it too much for fear of damaging the screw thread or something.
It's like the teeth on the grippy bit just aren't "teethy" enough - their edges are too rounded and it's too easy for the arm to be moved up and down even when the screws are really tight.
Haven't had a response from TomTom yet...

I'll bet this is an original GO? That issue is a known problem. It is a wear / poorly designed joint issue. _________________ Darren Griffin |

No, it's a Go 300, only about two months out of the shop!
Should I telephone them do you think? I've already posted it as a question under my profile on the TomTom website, but don't hold any faith in actually getting a reply...
Thanks for any advice... |

I'd take it up with the retailer, they are responsible for the warranty, _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi FearWorks
If you send TomTom an email with your problem they will send you a new mount for free. |

Thanks for the interest in my mounting problem... if you'll pardon the expression.
I have now received an email from TomTom telling me that my query will be answered shortly, so I'll just hold tight for a few days and see what comes of it.
Will let you know the outcome!
Thanks again! |
