Hello Guys and Girls,

I have a problem with TT5 and my Acer n35. It is detailed in the known problems list, and a fix is mentioned. I have tried to follow the instructions to fix it, but to be honest, I can't figure it out.

I've seen various posts relating to the Acer locking up, or the maps lagging.

My first issue is the slow maps. Would a setting a specific baud rate resolve this?

Also, I need to soft reboot even on previewing the map after about 10 mins, as the system locks. This suggests it's a program problem rather than a gps hardware or driver issue.

Any help would be coolio,

This forum is really good, look forward to being an active member.

Thank you for any help offered, and look forward to assisting when I can..

Regards,

Matt

Helo again,

Resolved the problem with TT5 hanging, I was trying to edit the wrong file, edit the exe in the program files folder!!

Now I need to sort the slow map issue. I've disabled street names etc, and will try different baud rates to see what happens!

Will report back with my findings (if anyones interested!)

Cheers,

Matt

Hello UrBaNwEb,

Welcom to the forum :D

I dont have any experience using Tom Tom so I cant help you out too much.

However you mentioned baud rate. The baud rate has nothing to do with maps or how they draw. The baud rate is the rate at which the PDA talks to the GPS so it wont affect your slow maps situation.

Im not sure if this could be the "problem" but since the n35 has a 266mhz processor it may just be generally slower that other device you may have played with. Most other devices nowadays have processors with 400mhz (or more) which would help heaps with complex maths situations like drawing maps.

Anyway hope that helps you somewhat Rolling Eyes

I don't think the procesor speed should be a particular bottle neck.

My dad has an ipaq 3850 (206mhz) - (tomtom says ttn5 won't run on it) and the 3d maps scroll smootly with the street names on and with the speed camera warnings on.

Make sure you don't have poi displayed on the map as ythis does hit performance (they still show up if you set the alert and you can still navigate to them).

the 3850 has nothing else on it no contacts, no appointments etc just tomtom which may help.
