.... and of course it landed face down on the only stone within 20 yards.

Result is my screen is cracked and the indentation where the stone hit the screen is causing it to think that specific area is being pressed. (Naturally)

Am i screwed or can the screen be replaced?.

I`ve no idea if it`s a prepex cover or if it is a sealed unit.

Pretty gutted tbh.

Thanks for any advice.

Rod

I don't know if the screen can be replaced, would suggest email to TT asking if it's possible and for a price.

You could always try claiming on your contents insurance for the cost of repair or replacement if you've got the a policy that covers possessions away from home.

The screen can be replaced, although it would probably cost you about 60 quid.

Thanks for the info guys,

Assuming the screen can be replaced/repaired, would it have to be returned to the manufacturing plant in Holland or are there repairers in the UK?.

Cheers.

There but for the grace of God ...

Hopefully to make you feel a bit better read the long tale of woe in this thread. and take heart from the happy result.

TomTom have an excellent reputation in repair/exchange of damaged units, so e-mail them right away, and hopefully the DHL man will be on the way to collect the sad package. Don't forget to keep a note any product codes for installed maps as the unit you get back may well be a replacement with a different device code.

Hi Zuke and thanks for the reply.

The Tom Tom is right out of the box apart from the 5.1 upgrade. I haven`t bought any map packs etc so i assume, if i`m able to get mine repaired/replaced, there shouldn`t be a problem.

Well, I'm not sure as I haven't played with a 300. The point is that the original TTG shipped with the maps supplied on a CD, so, as long as you had the product code on the CD envelope, you could reinstall to the SD card, using the device code for your TTG. With the 300, the only copy of the GB map is on the supplied SD card. I have heard that the factory-supplied cards will work in any TTG, regardless of the device code, but I can't confirm it. If that's right, there's no problem.

Maybe another forum user can confirm this?

That was the case with the Classic.

Another point is that it's not a warranty repair, so get a quote from TT first.

Just thought i`d close the circle on this thread in case it happens to anyone else.

Standard repair fee for damage to the unit, caused by the customer, is 170 euros.

So, my new screen cost me £118.00.

Be careful with your TTG`s guys!. Handle it with care !.

Fyi, it`s now 7 days since i authorised the repair (23rd June i paid for it) so i`m expecting the unit back anytime.

Cheers

Rod
