Hi all,
After some advice really, can anyone recommend a navigation system for use on a motorbike and occasionaly in the car? It would also be a help if it was also able to show the whereabouts of all those nasty speed camera's and traps! |

The Garmin Quest appears to be quite a popular choice, or you could wait for the Tomtom Rider to put in an appearance. Me, I use an iPAQ with slleve or BT unit in a map pocket, although I recently purchased an Otterbox with motorbike kit. I'm also going to try my iCN635 in the map pocket today. _________________ Tim |

Hi Henry_Dog,
As Tim suggests the Quest is a very popular choice, mainly due to its size. However there is a big product on the way.
TomTom Rider, due for launch in September has been specifically designed as a Sat Navigation unit for 2 wheels. With all the features of the TomTom GO units this product will be huge in the Biking world.

Garmin's Quest and Street Pilot 26xx are good units for on the bike, robust, waterproof and reliable but they don't do Speed Camera alerts. (You can show them on the map, but without a proximity warning it is of limited use).
If you get a Garmin then check out RAM mounts, they are rock solid and a lot cheaper than Garmin's bike mount (although they don't have wiring for an earpiece or power).
Garmin's have a cool feature whereby you can plan your route on the PC and upload it to the GPS. Ideal if you want to take the scenic route. :D
TomTom rider sounds promising, but the original release date has been delayed so if you want something before the winter sets in then you might want to look elsewhere. _________________ Gone fishing! |

yeah i was at the pocketgps meeting in Wales and was speaking to tomtom and the customer service manager says the rider is very very smart, i use a imate jam with bt GPS as i cannot be bothered dismounting the unit every time i get off the bike. Its a good idea if you are going touring or for a courier but i dont trust my bike not being locked up less alone a GPS attached to the handlebars.
Sorry for the negativity but i am from Glasgow there are enough thief’s up here to put anyone off. _________________ Regards

Thanks for all the advice. It looks like I'll be awaiting the arrival of the TomTom Rider then.
Great :D |
