Hi, I,m a newbie. I recently bought a Tom Tom 300. Then I had a stroke of luck, it developed a fault, so I took it back, got a refund and bought a Navman 510 !!! I'm not knocking Tom Toms! They are easy to use, have great quality sound and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. But they are large to carry around. The Navman slips into your top pocket with ease, but you will have to invest a couple of hours to learn to operate them fully. The sound output is O.K but the road noise at 200 m.p.h may cause you to strain your ears ! I over came this by fitting a transmitter into the earpiece socket. FM transmitters are used to transmit the output from an iPod MP3 player to your car radio, so when used with a SatNav you can have surround sound instructions with the volume controlled from the car radio. They cost £10 - £15 and can be found on e-bay. Search for ' ipod transmitter ' and you will find pages of them.
Don't forget to get on this site and download the positions of the safety cameras.

Keith.
