When I leave work, I have 2 routes I can take to get to the A102 (blackwall tunnel). The route it tries to take me may be faster if there wasn't 5 sets of traffic lights on route (which TTG obviously doesn't take into account), the way I usually go is a touch longer by about 70 yards but has 3 set of lights so is usually way faster.

I remember on one occasion it actually routed me the way I always go instead of the way it asks me to go, I thought it had learned my preference but I updated to V5 and its back to its old ways.

Obviously I know the way from my work to home and I know where all the "safety" cameras are but I use it every day in a desperate attempt to reteach it, am I wasting my time?

I am sorry you are wasting your time with this version, but who knows for the future.

The routes are calculated in a fixed manner and presented with the identical start point will give you an identical route every time. The only factors that can affect it are changes in maps (and we wont go there in this thread) or your physical position.

There were a number of people who reported a similar effect with the PDA version of the software and the original GO software. You need to bear in mind that even if you park in exactly the same spot day after day the position the GPS reports can be out by 10m or so. So one day you could be seen to be 10m away from you actual location and the route would then be calculated differently.

Now the more interesting effect is when you have to go down one access road to the main road and the routing can still take you either way. How does that one work? If I were to hazard a guess I would suspect that the first estimation of how a route is calculated starts with a direct a-b line and the rest is interpreted from there.

I will have to ask the boffins at TomTom about that one.
