Hi wuz,
to the forum!
An iPAQ 2210 and a 1GB CF card is a good start for the base kit. The CF card is especially so, as some 2210s don’t work well with Bluetooth GPS receivers when using an SD card.
Could you update your profile to indicate which country you’re in? It does help us to help you. I’ll assume that you’re in the UK.
Software is down to a personal choice, I prefer TomTom Navigator 3 for its GUI and ease of use. TTNav 3 will handle the PocketGPSWorld speed camera. You have reduced postcode search but that can be extend to 7 digits with third party add-on programs. The only real problem with TTNav3 is the age of the map data. TomTom Navigator 5 for the PPC is due very, very soon and has full 7 digit postcode look up and up-to-date maps.
I have a Fortuna Clip-on and have recently bought a GlobalSat BT-338. Both are excellent Bluetooth GPS receivers, but the GlobalSat out performs the Fortuna is terms of number of satellites seen, and in keeping a more constant lock on the satellites
As far as a cradle, I use a Brodit ProClip for the vehicle and a Brodit holder for the PDA.
In addition, if you haven’t already got a screen protector on the 2210, get one. It will save it from scratches. I use WriteSHIELD AG (Antiglare). Also get the full Sprite backup program and use it. It really is a “saver”!
Good luck with your choice, and welcome to the world of SatNav. :D

TomTom3 is no longer officially available, so it's worth hanging on a few weeks for the release of TT5. You should be able to get the software in a bundle with a bluetooth GPS receiver. This should suit you.
Unlike TT3, TT5 has built in full postcode search and POI (speed camera) warnings. |

I bought the BT338 from www.undercutter.com and it is amazing. I have had bluetooth receivers before and this one outperforms them all. It even works indoors. They also sell IPAQs, windscreen mounts, Tomtom3 and in car chargers. Highly recommended! |
