bt versus wired and reliability

I love using my gps navigation system, and will be gutted if something happens to it. I'm using a BT-77 unit and am not familiar with any other types. Running Tomtom and have lost a signal on a few rare occasions which i'm more than happy with. But what i want to know is

1) How reliable are these units in general (is it worth having a spare cus for the sake of 50 quid or so i'd get another or another type)

2)Which gives a better signal/reliable a BT unit or a wired

Forgot to add that i use gps for sometimes upto 8 hours a day

I've bought a couple of BT GPS's off ebay, for the reason you outlined.

They seem fine.

I've got an Aktronix one (Nemerix chipset) which cost £55 after delivery + Gordon's share (£15).

I've also got a BT-338 which is absolutely fantastic and well recommended. That was nearer the wrong side of a hundred though.

Both have a satisfactory battery life, and seem to pick up sats a lot more easily than my old GPS unit ever did.
