I have been to Bavaria three times now and alway go via Harwich ferry to The Hook of Holland and head south from there.

I just entered the route and it calculated the total journey as 810 miles via Folkestone, via M25 YOINKS!

However I am now trying to compare the route if going via Harwich using waypoints in the itinerary section, Harwich Ferry Road first, then Schliersee B307 next.

I can get it to calculate to Harwich ok, says 2 hours. But each time I try to calculate the second part it calculates from my home to Schliersee, not from Harwich.

This makes it very hard to work out which route is the better option, I want to find out have I been taking the long long long route all these years!

Any pointers? Me and the wife have been trying to suss this without much joy Embarassed

I suspect you want to mark Harwich as a waypoint rather than a destination. That way it'll route through Harwich to get to Schliersee. Is that what you're after?

Regards,
Mark.

One of the problems with travelling via Harwich is that TomTom knows that it takes 5-6 hours on the crossing and builds this in to the calculation. It wont assume that you will want a break from driving. Going through the Channel Tunnel will possibly work out to be a faster route using its weighting algorithms.

When I have been to that area of Germany I have always gone Dover-Calais. But then Harwich is a good 2 hours north from my place where Dover is 1.5 south.

Thnx, I shall have to try the waypoint option rather than destination approach.

btw I take the fast ferry, takes 3.5 hours rather than the slug 7 hours of normal ferries :D
