I just got an email back from ViaMichelin customer support to say if I register my v2.5 they will email me the link to download V3.0 upgrade free.

Has anyone started using V3.0 yet ? If so would be good to share any benefits or problems here, so others can avoid if it has problems.

From ViaMichelin description it sounds like they have gone for a more graphical interface than the old menu based system - presumably more like the Tom Tom Go interface ??

What was the problem with 3.0? I've just installed it and it seems OK.

just brought up the normal windows error message where you have to close the app down and can report the error to MS.

didn't pay a lot attention as I redownloaded it and it worked the first file was NVM navigation3-0 the second time it was 3-1.

Navigation now works in Pedestrian mode. If you use the demo mode it assumes a fixed default speed of 3mph and you can travel the wrong way doen one-way streets and use roads deemed as not accessible by Tele-Atlas

Also in v3 there is no way to view co-ordinates other than in the window that shows the GPS Status so it is more difficult to report the location of new speed cameras

Apart from that this seems to be an improvement, especially the ability to use post codes. Route calclulation also seems quicker but I may be imagining that

Sounds like v3 cannot delete POI's - I would find this very annoying, so will stick to v2.51 until this is fixed.

It also sounds like v3.1 doesn't exist, I certainly can't find it anywhere to download (only v3), can someone else confirm this (or post a link/instructions on where to download v3.1).

I think I'm to blame for the (non-existent) 3.1 version

The orginal download didn't work (wouldn't install) and it appears my download manager (firefox) added a 1 to the next download so this led to me thinking there was a 3.01 - file size etc are exactly the same so it looks like I just had a bad original download.

Not sure what you are referring to as "it". If it is my post about removing favourites then click on the link in my post above. If you are referring to Mapsonic v3 it is available on the viaMichelin website (for free if you have v2.5)

Can anyone confirm that MapSonic v3 will work with Tungsten T5?

I'd like to double check that it will work before I order the PDA as well as ViaMichelin.

Thanks,
Chris

from the via Michelin web site:

PDA compatibility

Palm OS®
Operating system: Palm OS® 5.X
PDA: palmOne™ Zire 31, 72, Tungsten TE, TE2, T3, T5, Treo 650

2.5 MB of disk space required (depending on SD card size) for T5, Treo 650 and TE2, and 10 MB for all other PDAs..

Pocket PC®
Pocket PC® 2000 with ARM processor
Pocket PC® 2002
Pocket PC® 2003, 2003 SE
256 colours minimum
PDAs:
HP rz1710, h2110, 6340, 3715
Qtek 9090
Dell X50
Mio 168
Acer n35

so you should be ok - runs very well on a TE so you should have no problems

HTH

Thanks.

I just received my v2.5 from globalpositioningsystems.co.uk (with a free online upgrade to v3).

Unfortunately, the v2.5 CD would not install. I'm trying to get help from the retailer, but without much luck so far Crying or Very sad

Because its v2.5, the PDA power adaptor for T5 is not in the box. Can someone suggest where I can get hold of one?

I am hoping to get this going this weekend so prepare for a roadtrip next weekend!!

Any sugegstions??

Thanks,
Chris

Apologies if you have tried these already but:
Have you tried copying the CD to another blank disk or four? You might just need to copy the one that is just spinning in the drive.
Or can you copy the CDs onto your hard drive and load it from there?
Can you install another CD drive in case it is just an incompatability between disk and drive?
Failing that it you are going to have to get the retailer or ViaMichelin to replace the CDs.
Hope something works.

I have tried copying the setup.exe file from the CD, but XP comes back with "Not responding". I have not tried copying the whole CD yet. There is only 1 CD by the way for the Navigation software.

I also tried loading from both my CD drives on my VAIO, but get the same results.

Unfortunately, the London Kirrio helpfile is closed for the weekend, so I will have to wait till Monday, unless I can get hold of another copy of the CD in the meantime.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Chris
