Re-routing problems

There is a specific route I'd like to take to get to my mother's house. PMN refuses to route me the way I want to go (the shortest and fastest). Instead it will route me almost 10 miles out of my way for one routing, or several miles for 2 other routings. I can go into the route directions and check off roads I want to avoid then hit re-calculate. No matter what I "avoid" it refuses to route me on my preferred route. After 3 recalculations, the program hangs trying to re-calculate, requiring a soft reset. The road I want to take is a major highway but PMN only recognizes it once I'm on it.

Programmed a short 10 mile route. The program kept recalculating the route in an endless loop when I went off route. I fixed it by turning off the rerouting. It should have recalculated once. I am used to Mapopolis' instant reroute capability. It does not pause to recalculate.
