Hi,
I've been looking on and off at GPS systems for a while, and they came back to my attention after your site was promoted on Fifth Gear :D

I have seen the review of Tom Tom mobile 5, and it looks like something I might get (when it comes out). However, I can't find answers to some simple questions, I apologise if the answers are already around...

- How often do Tom Tom tend to update maps? I live near Milton Keynes and they build roads there faster than you can say 'it were all fields in my day'... So, I'm wondering how out of date my map will become after I've purchased the box?

- If they do update the maps, do you have to pay and subscribe to receive this?

- I've seen some stuff about the traffic service which uses GPRS. If you don't want to use this, does Mobile 5 use GPRS at all? Does it have to maintain/download any data apart from to and from the GPS receiver?

- As the software comes on a card, I assume it's easy enough to just use your phone's backup facility and copy this? Or is there some weird encryption type stuff which won't let you copy anything? I'm worried the card might get damaged if I swap them around...

- Where can I find out whether my phone can cope with concurrent bletooth devices (it's a Nokia 6600)? Would be nice to carry on using my headset at the same time...

Many thanks!

Diane

Map updates happen once a year, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the maps are actually up to date. Expect at least a two year lag

Yes, map updates will cost you. Application updates are free.

GPRS is used for Traffic and other "Plus" services. If you don't use any of those TomTom 5 will still run fine. The program itself does not require GPRS

It's already on the card, so no backup is required. And no, it's not encrypted - you can simply duplicate the card contents via a PC copy.

concurrent use of GPS and headset - that I don't know for the Nokia. Works on my machine (iAPQ6315)
