|
My TomTom cradle BT GPS finally died this weekend, and is well out of warranty. Need to replace it with an equivalent unit that is powered by the car's ignition system (it has to live on the back parcel shelf, so cabled versions are no good, and don't fancy leaning over to switch it on every time ). Anyone have advice?

TomTom's BT GPS is one of only two I know of that allow hard wiring, the other being the Deluo BlackBox.
The obvious solution would be another TomTom Bluetooth GPS assuming the cradle still works as this is no longer supplied. _________________ Darren Griffin |

what died? the cradle or the gps receiver? if the cradle, too bad if it can't be fixed. i suggest that you contact tomtom and see if they can repair it. if the gps receiver, i believe you can get a replacement bt gps receiver from tomtom.

The cradle has a single IC regulator chip in it that is available from any electronics shop such as Maplin. If you are not into soldering, find a friend who can, it is a simply job for anyone with moderate soldering skills.
The particular chips are usually reliable so recheck your wiring first. The pins in the hard wired cable can slip out the end plug. |

Thanks everyone.
I'm sure it's the GPS unit itself - symptom is short flash of blue BT LED when switched on, followed by constant green GPS signal LED, then can't be switched off. Left it for over a week on discharge - no sign of useful life from it when recharged - via the cradle or direct. Similar symptoms to other messages in this forum saying GPS is dead.
How do I check if cradle is faulty? |

i don't think you can check the cradle without a working gps receiver. so either you get a replacement bt gps from tomtom, or get the deluo. the only problem with the deluo is that you can't take it outside of the car if you want to use tomtom for walking. the replacement bt gps could also be prone to the same problem over time. _________________ tomtom 940 live/tt active dock holder/tt rds-tmc traffic receiver usb |
