Hi,

I'm considering getting a GPS system for the first time and have been doing a bit of research, not least by reading the articles on this great site. I had considered using my Nokia 9300 (with the additional hardware and software) but the current favourite options seems to be the 'Tom Tom Go 500'. However, I have several questions that I haven't found anwsers for:

1 - In a review of the original 'Tom Tom Go', The reviewer said the worst aspect of it was the reflective screen. Has this been improved on the 'Go 500'?

2- Do you get a USB cable in the box in order to connect to a PC or do you need to buy this seperately? I'm assuming I would need to connect to my PC to install a Speed Camera POI database for example. I understand I could possibly download it with GPRS on my mobile but that sounds like hassle to me and would prefer to do it via my PC.

3- Do you get a Car Mount for it in the box or have to buy seperately? My car doesn't have any convenient flat surfaces to just sit it on unfortunately.

4- Is the positioning of the unit critical to get satelite signals? i.e. does it have to be pressed up against the windscreen?

5 - Is the unit affected by car heaters? i.e. you have to place it away from them?

6 - Is there a hard case available for safe storage when not in use? I can imagine the screen getting knocked (and cracked) otherwise.

7 - Is the hands free functionality compatible with the Nokia 9300?

8 - Any idea what the prices of the new Tom Tom Gos will be in the UK?

Thanks for any help.

And don't overlook Navicore who have an excellent Nokia solution and will be launching in the UK shortly.

We met them at CeBIT and saw the software in action, very slick and well sorted. As you already have a 9300 it may be worth waiting for them to launch in the UK.

I had posted my questions after reading those articles and thinking they didn't answer them. I'll re-read and check.

Yes, I read the Navicore review and that is certainly a possibility (as is the 'Tom Tom Mobile') but I'm coming round to thinking the hassle of carrying several extra bits and pluging them together (or making sure they're all charged in time) put me off a bit. I'm still pretty open minded at this stage though. Is it known when the UK version of the Navicore will appear and how much it will be?
