I recently puchased one from the States for £10 ( magnetic type ) with the mini connection. In my opinion the signal comes in quicker and is much stronger. If you live in an area with a lot of large buildings, then this must be worth the expense.

Defintive a good extension to your 510. I bought one as we have two cars and one have windows that shield the signal.

Now we are going to purchase a second one to have it in both cars. In the city it's a must.

Will give you better signal and higher precision.

Highly recommended

I use an antenna I bought off eBay, but I don't have it placed outside. The antenna sits on my dashboard and it still picks up the satellite quicker than the internal antenna. This past weekend I used the 510 in my girlfriend's car but didn't bring the external antenna with me. I was frustrated the whole time... the time to lock on the satelite, and its ability to maintain the lock, were noticeably worse!

Mine was $20US on eBay and well worth every penny!

Does it matter which external antenna I use with an iCN 510, as long as it has a MMCX connector?

I don't think it matters. I have not heard of anyone finding that theirs did not work.

Would any members having bought an antenna please indicate where from and the cost and any problems. It would help me and others to make a reasoned choice. Thanks.

I bought this one from eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34289&item=5764492230&rd=1

It is now $25 + 5 s/h on Buy It Now. I paid $5 less when I got it. It works great. No complaints.

It states that the power input is 2.5v - 12v but where does it get it's power from?

The power is supplied by the GPS receiver via the external antenna socket.

I bought a Motorola one on ebay for 11.99 + VAT - works fine - very good signal.
You need to make sure that any antenna has a MMCX connection, rather than a MCX.
Good luck

The antenna that I bought works fine but I was just wondering has anyone had any problems with continually connecting and disconnecting the antenna? Does the connector in the iCN 510 eventually become slack and a poor fit?
Any views?
