XDA2i not talking GPS to BT318

Please help
Just bought a new XDA2i and Globalsat BT318 bluetooth GPS receiver.
I have managed to pair my XDA2i and the BT318 unit.

When I go into my GPS settings - I just cannot seem to receive any satelites. The BT318 does have a blinking green light and a faster flashing blue light to indicate that bluetooth and GPS are working on the receiver.

Any help much appreciated - I'm so confused

I've tried selecting several different options too - but no luck
I saw this comment in the forums :
"NMEA 0183v2 Bluetooth" should work for any Bluetooth GPS that runs at the standard 38400bps." form one of the moderator's - but still no luck.

My outgoing comm port is comm 6 and incomming is comm 5.
I set it to use comm 6, but still zilch Sad

If the Bluetooth light is flashing on the GPS, you've probably got the right settings. COM6: and NMEA 0183v2 Bluetooth sounds right.

What happens if you leave the system where the GPS has a clear view of the sky for at least 15 minutes? That may well be sufficient to get it going.

If you're still having problems, describe what you're seeing on the first tab of TomTom GPS. Are there any scrolling dots? A time and date - and if so, is it correct? How many grey and/or red bars?

Hi David

Firstly, many thanks for trying to help mate Smile

I been outside with the BT318 and my XDA2i for the last 20 minutes.
All the stuff on the first tab is mostly greyed out. I don't get any dots between the little satellite dish and the picture of the PDA.
None of the bars have anything in them and i have all "0" in the speed and longitude/latitude sections.

I'm not sure what to do next Sad

No scrolling dots means no connection so far as TomTom GPS is concerned.

Let's backtrack a little. So far as I remembers, the XDA 2i is a Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition device. You should be using TomTom Navigator 3.07 and GPS 3.07 on WM2003SE - they can be downloaded from the TomTom web site.

If you haven't already installed those, do so and try again.

If you had already installed those versions, I'm getting a bit stuck - it may be worth testing the GPS with a program like Leadtek (Winfast) Navigator, but that can be a little bit tricky to set up, too. Any XDA 2i users got any suggestions?

Hi David

I have tried re-installing with TT 3.07 and TT GPS 3.07. I've reset the device to factory settings, and tried only installing TomTom and the relevant upgrades to 3.07.

I've also tried installing nothing else, but the TomTom GPS 2.06 software - but still same result.
I've tried installing Bluetooth tools as an option too - but no luck with that.

This BT318 GPS is about to do some airtime out the window Evil or Very Mad

Anyone recommend a guarenteed GPS receiver to work with the XDA2i please ?

I got it working - just bluetooth settings on the XDA2i :P

In the settings for the serial port - you should only have service enabled and Authorization required ticked. All other boxes should NOT be ticked.
Make a note of the outgoing comm port - mine is comm 6

I then just discovered the BT318 in bluetooth manager - did not pair it - no need. That's all - no pass codes etc required.

Get TomTom 3.07 up and running and used NMEA183v2 38400 and Bluetooth serial on comm 6 and BINGO !!

Hope that helps any other strugglers
