I don't think POIEdit is your problem, more likely to be Active Sync
I have 3 Work POI's I'm constantly adding to from within POIEdit and copy the edited fill straight over to the SD Card by over writing the existing .ov2 without any problems BUT the SD Card is in the card reader when I do this, so I'm not using Active Sync. _________________ Graham.

i have confirmed the problem to be the .bmp files
after a complete delete and new setup i copied the previuos downloaded poi's back to sd card
tomtom then locked up
whilst still connected with active sync i tried to delete the poi's
every time i tried this one or another .bmp file refused to be deleted
ie must have been in use by tomtom causing the lockup
all i have now are the manually installed pocketgps speed camera files and all is ok
this is a real shame as poiedit looks great
any suggestions?
i dont have an sd card reader |

I've found one or two of the .bmp files available via POI Sync have crashed certain versions of TomTom Navigator. From memory, the particularly troublesome one is Steam Trains.
There are many people - myself included - who are successfully using many of the POIs from POI Sync.
Meanwhile, the problem with Navigator crashing on startup is relatively well known as often being a .bmp related phenomenon. To debug this, start by moving all the .ov2 and .bmp files out of your map folder, and start Navigator. That should work without crashing - if not, you have another problem. Exit Navigator (use the menus and/or the Exit option in the Navigator Menu - the X button, unless you've installed software to change the behaviour, minimises rather than closes on Pocket PC), move a few back, try again - keep on with a process of trial and error until you discover which POI is to blame.

thanks
thats the conclusion i came too, nice to know its not just me
remember one was asda but cantremember the other one that caused the freeze
do you think that sending the poi's to a file on pc then onto sd card could stop problem?
from what i remember poiedit downloads 3 files for each poi when only three are needed
wonder if there is a check other than loading each individually that can be done before passing files onto sd card
cheers |

If you open the .ov2 file in POIEdit, if it is corruped then POIEdit will tell you and fail to open it. If you open the associated .bmp file in Paint you can also check it and also make sure it is the correct size 22X22. _________________ Graham.

There are known issues with lockups if you have too many POI's in the country directory and not enough free memory available. You may find that by reducing the amount of POI's you have installed will resolve this issue. |
