|
|
Hi i'm trying to install tomtom UK onto my laptop
When i put the CD in to install tomtom it just says "your PC does not support the devices for which there are applications in this package. Please install the supporting software first and run setup again. Setup will now end"
I cant get any further than that. I dont plan to use it on a pocket PC at the moment, just a laptop. (I have a garmin GPS i attach to the laptop no problems).
does anyone know why it wont let me install??
Any help would be appreciated
thanks

TomTom Navigator will only run on PocketPC's. PalmPC's and Smartphones. It will not run on nor is it designed for PC's. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks Darren. that solves most of the problem!!
A question then, how would i get the software of the cd rom onto my PDA? my PDA wont take 700meg which is what the software is (got a 256 CF card), Surly you need it on a pc to download it and the required area / maps to the PDA?
thanks

The software is nowhere near that size in reality. On the CD will be installer's for varous different device types and in multiple languages which accounts for the 700MB you're seeing.
In reality, the installation package when it reaches the PDA is less than 1Mb for the application and approximately 100MB for the full UK map. You install the application to main memory and the map to the storage card. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The PDA end is a little bit bigger than 1MByte - it's around 4MBytes for the application, GPS driver and voice files. However, Darren's point holds - there's a lot of material on the CD-ROM that isn't needed on the Pocket PC.
Apart from the Great Britain map (105MBytes approximately), there's Major Roads of Europe (around 80MBytes). There's also various sections of the Great Britain map in approximately 64MByte, 32MByte and 16MByte chunks. However, with memory cards getting ever cheaper, these are of increasingly little value unless you want a map that you can keep in main memory for some reason.

You need to have ActiveSync installed. That's why the setup does not start.
that's also what it said:"Please install the supporting software first and run setup again." |

.apk files install only through a TomTom installer - there should be a setup.exe or similar with that file.
TomTom switched to having maps that you install using a program with Navigator 3. Navigator 2004 HP Edition works the same way. Copying a .apk directly to a storage card won't do any good.
