Hi all, im new to all this gps stuff and a little stuck. I bought one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3730&item=5155568783&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW The manual which came with it was somewhat brief and I was left confused.

Now, I put the GPS in my Dell Axim x50v and switch it on. I go to Settings > GPS and wait for the app to load. The first screen is greyed out. I click on the GPS tab at the bottom and find the list of GPS devices supported. The manual which came with the GPS device says that the device comes up as CF_CARD-GENERIC and BAUD rate 4800. However, I can not seem to find this card listed in the pull down menu.

When I run Tomtom, it says that "GPS position is unreliable."
Anyone use this card? or know where I can get help? Much appreciated.

Seeing as this is apparently a SiRF based receiver, I'd go into the second tab of TomTom GPS, make sure there's no tick in the blue box at the top left (tap the box if there is), then select "TomTom Navigator GPS" in the top box and "CF_CARD_GENERIC" in the bottom box.

If you tap the blue box, then switch back to the first tab, you should see "scrolling dots". At that point, make sure the setup has a good view of the sky, and it should hopefully get a fix within a few minutes.

Which version of TomTom Navigator and TomTom GPS have you got installed?

I'd try 3.07, available from support.tomtom.com in the downloads section - does that help?

Hi amdgear
I'm using the same GPS card as you with TTN v3.07 & ipaq2210 & it works ok. CF_CARD_GENERIC appears as the first item on the drop-down menu, above COM3. Have you tried pressing the reset button on the back ?
If ithe card's not showing on the menu,I doubt it will work - maybe you've been sold a dud ? Crying or Very sad

i am using tt 3.07 yes.

cartman, does your gps card occasionally fail to powerup? its happened 2 times now, the latest being right now Sad i put the card into the cf slot but none of the lights show up. first time this happened, i left it over night and it seemed ok the next morning.

i have hard reset the pda serveral times and reset the gps card (dont think resetting this does much) but generic cf card never shows up on the 2nd pull down menu of the gps app with tomtom.

Sad

You asked "does your gps card occasionally fail to powerup?"
No - if I put it in the slot with the PDA off, it switches the
PDA on & it's LED flashes momentarily. It doesn't work then until TTN is on & it's selected from the drop down menu. No problems at all with it. It does sound as though you have a dud ! Sad

Hi Guys I have a similar problem I have the same CF card with a IPAQ 3660 running TT 3.07 and GPS 3.07. I have tried the solution above but cannot get TT to accept Tom Tom Navigator GPS and Generic CF Card as a recongised solution (the choices are there in the drop downs) but when selected and then tapping in the check box no tick appears. I can select Tom tom Navigator Wireless GPS and Generic CF Card and this locks in (tick appears in box) However nothing appears on the GPS First page although the lights on the GPS show that it is locked. Using the software supplied with the Unit I can get a fix locked in but nothing in Tom Tom. I have since removed the software that came with the unit. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

I have used many of the CF GPS receivers and they all default to:
TomTom Navigator GPS
CF_GENERIC

Make sure you don’t have any other GPS drivers install that could be locking the port and turn IR off.

Hi Steven tried this but I still cannot activate by selecting Tom Tom Navigator GPS and CF Card Generic - The tick box stays blank.

I have tried a reset, reinstalling the software and upgrades but to no avail. I have switched off infra red and removed any other software or drivers.

Any further suggestions

Hi Guys problem solved.

Hard Reset the IPAQ - I was only going to use it for Navigation anyway.

Reinstall TT 3.07 and maps

Reinstall Voice

Add expansion pack

Plug in GPS

Select as described and click in check box and hey presto its working.

Thanks for all your assistance Steven.

Will now get to test it on the way home.

Regards

Peter
