Totally peeved as I was a Pocket PC virgin upto 3 months ago and wanted an organiser for work and useful SatNav. Bought a 2nd hand Compaq 3600 with Navman jacket. Totally awesome until the battery went flat while I was on holiday (must have left it on in error) and now tomtom 3 will not work.

Main desktop icon removed for tomtom and although main info there (i can set destinations etc) 'voice files not installed' and 'GPS disabled' messages come up so I am completely baffled.

Any help will be appreciated and please treat me as a complete computer/GPS simpleton. I could use the thing when it was set up but now I am clueless. Many thanks. 8O

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I don't have the CD as I bought the lot off ebay. What I have found though is that most of the info I need seems to be on the CF card in the 3000 jacket. The voice files, and all the tomtom screens (navigate to, find, exit application etc) are there but the GPS icon on the program menu has gone. I managed to reimput my home as No.1 on the favourites menu last night. I have found the tomtom GPS in one of the folders but can't access anything. In addition the Navman GPS icon has aldso been removed from the program menu. Each time I put the sleeve onto the IPAQ the card is unrecognised. I am totally frustrated and as well as spending 3 hours reinputting my diary am now unable to use my GPS.

Any assistance you can provide would be much appreciated. Even better is that you are a northerner! Thanks again.

looks like you don't have a license for the software - so help on this forum will be very limited - can't you contact the seller?

You could try downloading and installing the latest 3.07 version of ttn3 from www.tomtom.com but you maybe asked to reactivate the software and for that you will need the code from the software - without it it just won't work.

Ultimately your best bet would be to buy a new copy of TTN3 - best to avoid ebay as once the software has been activated on one device you are restricted to one further new install evry 6 months.

good luck

Ian

Hi farri,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

I agree with Ian. If you haven’t got the install CD and a unique product key then it sounds like you have purchased a pirated copy of TomTom. Whether you manage to get your set-up working again, or not, you should immediately contact the eBay seller and demand the install CD and product key.

If you can’t get the CD then you will need to unfortunately buy a legitimate sealed copy of TTNav3. Sorry.

You should also consider getting the latest version of Sprite Backup Premium Edition. Which is very useful for restoring iPAQs if they lose power etc.

Regards,

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I do have the device code, product code and activation code which consist of a series of letters/numbers, these are on a sticker that the seller has stuck onto the back of the iPAQ. These are classed as activation of Tomtom navigator 3 Great Britain on the sticker.

Will I be able to use these or will I still need to purchase the software?

Thanks for the info so far.

looks like you may be in business - try the 3.07 download and see how you get on. the maps and voice prompts are missing from the updates but it sounds like you have these.

Also you will most likely need some drivers from the navman website - not sure as I've never used the sleeve .

I have tried the v3.07 but it appears that my activation codes are not valid. I did try the backup restorer as suggested but it did not seem to restore the Navman info.

Now I find that after loading v3.07 it has overwritten the original version that I had and I cannot now access the data that I could before (that is the directions/home/exit stages of tomtom). In addition I keep gettiong the message that no voice files are installed but these are stored in 'all folders' on the CF card.

Is there anyway that I can remove v3.07 as it appears to have done more harm than good or am I mistaken?

Any suggestions anyone? Evil or Very Mad

Thanks

Hi farri,

I’m afraid that it sounds like you’ve bought a PDA with pirated software. There are some unscrupulous sellers on eBay who bump up the price of their old PDA equipment by adding a GPS receiver and a pirated copy of TomTom.

Obviously I can’t say for certain that you have bought a PDA with a pirated copy of TomTom, but if you don’t have the original install CD and an invalid activation code then evidence points that way.

Do you know or remember which version of TomTom the PDA ran when you bought it? Was it 3.0, I have heard that TomTom soon became aware of the pirated (cracked) issue and the latter updates to TomTom Navigator will not work if you have a cracked version.

I think you have only two courses of action:
1. Contact the eBay seller and ask for the original install CD and activation code.
2. Buy a new sealed copy of TTNav3.

Do you have the link for the eBay sale?

Regards,
