All I want are the most accurate co-ordinates

I am looking at the market to purchase a handheld or possibly PDA compatible GPS unit.

It is for my business use and the prime use for it will not be navigating or keeping track of distances, simply storing co-ordinates of exact spots where we have been drilling.

Does anyone have any suggestions on either a product type, specific produc or any helpful hints as I am a bit blown away with all the options available!

It all depends on how “accurate” you want accurate to be. According to the Ordnance Survey, any hand-held GPS receiver will give you a relatively accurate set of co-ordinates, i.e. within 5 to 10 metres, 95% of the time. See here.

If you want greater accuracy, then you need to go for a Differential GPS (DGPS). See here. You should get accuracy to within one metre.

I like the Garmin hand-held units. I use a Garmin 12XL, which is rather old. I’m not sure whether it is still made.
