|
|
Hi
I intend to use my Palm and Garmin eMap (wired connection) when out walking. Obviously I need some protection for the Palm.
I've seen the various Otter cases - are there any alternatives? Preferably cheaper ones!
It doesn't need to be 100% water/crush/elephant-proof, just provide a reasonable degree of protection against accidental drops, rain etc.
Ideally it'll have room for both the Palm (T3) and an attached PowerToGo sled, and allow access to the screen, hardware buttons and HotSync connector (for connecting the GPS).
Any suggestions?

There are the products from Aquapac, which will make your setup waterproof and allow you to carry it on a neck cord. Would that do what you want?

Those were what I'd initially considered; however I'm looking for something that will provide some protection against me dropping it.
Also I'm currently using a wired GPS-Palm connection, and I don't think the Aquapack has any way to get the cable out of it.
Of course if Navman would hurry up and release the 4470 I wouldn't have to worry about the cable ...

Aquapac have the Connected Electronics case, which would deal with the cable.
To be honest, I don't think you'll find what you're looking for - I'm only aware of the products from Otter and Aquapac.
There is the PDA Wallet from Aquapac which has a little more protection than a standard Aquapac (though no cable provision), and there's the new Otter 1900, which may be a little cheaper in the UK that their other products (it looks like it may come out at around £50), but that's about it.

Thanks, I'll take a look. I've got a Navman BT GPS on order so that too would remove the need for cable access.

OK - I was assuming that those were the only two options, I was just wondering if I'd missed something.

I'm seriously looking at the Otter 1900 - it's a bit expensive though and I'm not 100% sure my PDA+external batter will fit in it.
I'll post back and let you know how I get on.
