I have just got into this GPS lark and a week ago I down-loaded ChechPOInt 2.02 as somewhere in this tremendous forum, it was suggested as being 'better' to do this than to use version 3.2 (something to do with file types, I think).
Is this still the situation please?
Would it 'damage' me to use 3.2 rather than 2.02, (which I happy with, by the way?)

If you just want to use the Pocket GPS World camera database, CheckPOInt 2.0.2 is recommended. This is because it makes it easy to record and submit cameras; they're put into CheckPOInt.ov2 with textual descriptions containing the camera type and speed.
CheckPOInt 3 has more features, but a larger memory footprint. If you don't set up synchronisation to POIplace, it still records cameras in CheckPOInt.ov2, but it discards the useful textual descriptions (with speed limits and the like). If you do set up synchronisation to POIplace, the only way to find cameras you've recorded is via POIplace, and I'm not aware of any way to put it back to unsynchronised mode without a hard reset (I've looked for the synchronisation details in vain).
Personally, I don't like the POIplace method of collecting POIs - it's too prone to "dirty data", with people accidentally pressing the record button and/or recording objects that aren't speed / red light cameras. The Pocket GPS World database is checked manually before release; certain known 'bad' cameras are stripped out if resubmitted (be they CCTV, Trafficmaster or bus lane cameras), some record is kept of who submitted what and so on.
