|
|
I have the DeLorme Earthmate running (err...well…sometimes…) with a USB<->Serial cable on a Toshiba e750 with the Prolific PL-2303 driver. The problem that I have is that about 95% of the time, when connecting the USB<->Serial cable to the e750 the error message
USB OVER CURRECT DECTECT
USB device is turned off. Please
Disconnect USB device.
I have tried everything I know of to try to figure out why this is coming up…from soft reboots to a total device reset. Usually I can get everything working after a total device reset…but only for a while. If a soft reboot is done, then most likely I will end up with the error message again.
Have you heard of this? Any ideas?
Thanks!

I think the message says Over-Current. Get a GPS receiver that consumes less power. _________________ Lutz

Yes...a typo on my part. Over Current. I am using a powered USB<->Serial cable from Supply.Net (http://www.thesupplynet.com/searchresults.cfm?mySearch=product&prodName=210) that supposedly powers the GPS device rather than the e750.
So you are saying that the GPS is not getting enough power? |

yes, the GPS (and the USB>Serial converter) draw more current than the Toshiba can deliver _________________ Lutz

The cable should power BOTH the PDA and GPS.
The over-current message may pop up occasionally in this set up (USB>serial converter).
Does it come up with or without external power (from cigar lighter)?
If it comes up consistantly with external power connected, you may have a defective cable. _________________ Pc-Mobile
