Does anyone know if there is a unit similar to the "Fortuna clip on BT gps" which can be used with an Axim but is not Bluetooth? I want to use my Axim/wired TomTom Nav3 whilst on foot. |

As far as I know there are no wired receivers that can be used on foot, they require a power supply to function. If the power could be taken from your Axim the battery life would be considerably reduced.
Hence why Bluetooth is the preferred option for on-foot navigation. _________________ Ian.

It isnt a silly question really, we seem to be getting that request quite a lot recently.
The best way to avhieve this is to buy a handheld GPS like the Garmin eTrex or even better the Garmin Geko and an interface lead. That way you get the best of both worlds a Stand-alone GPS and the PDA with GPS attached.
This is a combination I will be using in the USA later this week. Mainly because the Garmin Geko can last for 12 hours on a set of batteries and will record my track. The PDA will last for 4-5 hours. Therefore I have the GPS on constantly and then just connect up to the PDA when I need to make a decision or to see where I want to go. _________________ Mike Barrett |

I only ask because as I understand it the Fortuna clip on BT gps has a battery built in to power the receiver and the PDA naturally powers itself. I thought someone might make something similar that would allow me to use a self powered receiver with an Axim via a wire |

The only self-powered wired GPSes tend to be handheld GPSes, of the sort that Mike mentioned. As Mike said, you can get interface cables to use those with a PDA.
I've not yet come across a displayless battery powered wired GPS.
