Hi, I currently have an IPAQ 3970 with Tomtom 3 and Cambridge Pilot (moving map/flight planning/airspace warning software for gliding cross country). I am looking for a GPS, I don't want bluetooth as I need a permanently wired connection for recording my flight data.

Please advise whether to go for a GPS sleeve, (advantages would be that it is one unit and easily mountable and would only have one wire to power) or to go for a GPS mouse. If a GPS mouse, I am looking for a system that will power the IPAQ and the GPS via a battery, also will need a mount suitable for this, again unsure what to go for (please advise).

When flying, I currently use a 12 channel Garmin 12XL and this is more than adequate and seems to me has the same ability as a 12 channel slim GPS which is why I thought I could kill two birds with one stone by having one GPS for both jobs. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Not sure I understand. I thought a BT data logger serves the same purpose.

Anyhow, if your Garmin12XL comes with a RS232 port then you can connect it directly to the iPAQ - no need for yet another receiver.
