Hello !

I recently tried a GlobalSat BC307 CompactFlash GPS Card in my Dell Axim X5 (with TomTom Navigator 3).

I found the performance to be very delayed, with slow update/response.
For example, in TomTom I would get a voice prompt regarding a junction up ahead in 200 Yards - BUT infact I was actually already at the junction!!

Then after negociating the Juncxtion and off onto the next road, another voice prompt would say "Turn Left at the Junction" .....(too late)!!

Has anyone else experienced any delays with the GlobalSat CF Cards - Or could it just have been something to do with my PDA/Configuration ??

Do you happen to know if your Globalsat GPS has Xtrac firmware? This sounds rather like Xtrac version 1 behaviour when used 'in car'.

David,

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
Unfortunately, I am unaware of the Firmware version in the GPS Card (it was a friends card that I borrowed for a short time).

Is there any way to upgrade the Firmware on the GlobalSat CompactFlash cards, or is it just a 'characteristic' !? Will using an external Antenna help to reduce this "lag" when used In-Car or probably not ?

Look forward to your reply.

If the card was using Xtrac firmware, an external antenna won't make any difference.

I have a Haicom HI-303MMF which I often use in car as a CompactFlash GPS. This runs standard SiRF 2.31 firmware (not Xtrac), and exhibits no lag whatsoever. Lag is not an inherent problem with CompactFlash GPSes.
