I have downloaded these files from http://www.tomtom.com/support/ce/support/nav_poi.php and stored them in a directory on my PC and am having difficulty running them. The instructions say

DUMPOV2 1.22
============

The use of DUMPOV2.EXE is simple and straightforward:

DUMPOV2 [inputfilename] [outputfilename]

The easiest usage is to provide no parameters: DUMPOV2 will convert
all OV2 and OVR files in the current directory.

If you specify "inputfilename", it must be a valid TomTom Navigator
POI file (with extension OV2) or a valid Route Planner or Citymaps
OVERLAY file (with extension OVR). It is recommended to provide
an outputfilename with extension ASC.

and

MAKEOV2 1.1
===========

The use of MAKEOV2.EXE is as follows:

MAKEOV2 inputfilename [outputfilename]

The input file should be a text file (extension ASC is recommended!) that
should simply contain lines of text. Any line starting with a semi-colon
will be ignored. Empty lines will also be ignored. All other lines are
expected to represent points of interest. Such a line should specify a
longitude, a latitude and a name, seperated by commas.

My question is how do you specify the input parameters ‘inputfilename’ and ‘outputfilename’ when running the programs?

I have successfully run dumpov2 only because I had a singe ov2 file in the directory and both parameters are optional!

Any help would be appreciated.

I am running Windows XP Home edition.

Many thanks in advance,

The easiest thing to do with these tools is run them from the command prompt (Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories). If you want to make things easy, copy both the programs and the files you want to work with onto your desktop - then it's likely just a case of

cd desktop

to get into the right directory.
