|
|
Hi all
I'm using a iPAQ3870 (PPC2002) with the Navman GPS3450 jacket and SmartST V2.
I upgraded to V2 from SmartST Pro 1.91.
Everything worked fine until I had to flash the iPAQ's ROM.
I'm now using the same ROM image as before but I can't reinstall SmartST V2.
ActiveSync is running and installing the files on iPAQ works fine. But when I want to activate the software, it tells me kind of "Error while trying to communicate with your Pocket PC. Please make sure that your Pocket PC is connected, SmartST is installed and ActiveSync 3.5+ is running". (I'm using the german version of SST V2 so it might not be exactly the same error in english).
When I try to start SmartST on the iPAQ, it tells me "Please start SmartST from the installation CD".
Of course, my iPAQ IS connected, SmartST IS installed on my PPC and ActiveSync IS running. I was using ActiveSync 3.7.1 and also tried it with 3.7 and 3.6 but without success.
I also installed my old SmartST Pro 1.91 and then upgrade to V2 but without success.
I also installed the service packs for SmartST V2, tried to reinstall it several times but without success.
I checked out Navman.log in 'my documents' of iPAQ and there it says:
"[timestamp]: map auth: error getting size of \Windows\cdkeys.dat"
Actually, I don't have a cdkeys.dat on my PPC but I assume this should be automatically created during the installation.
My two support requests to Navman remained unanswered so far, so I have no idea what to do anymore.
Has anyone of you an idea what I could do? Or maybe at least a phone number for Navman Europe which I could call?
Thanks a lot
Cheers,
Andreas |

Hi
Sorry I can't help with your problem, but at least here is the telephone for Navman-Europe in the UK; +44 (0) 1293 780 500
Best wishes

hi all
after getting a hint from Navman support, I found out that my iPAQ lost the serial number after flashing the ROM.
I had to adjust the ROM image to re-enter my serial number and now it works!
cheers,

Hi,
Can you tell me how you added the serial number to your iPAQ. I have exactly the same equipment and exactly the same problem. And Navman support have also ignored my emails.
thanks

If you believe an iPAQ has lost its 'burnt in' serial number, you need to check in the HP Asset Viewer or equivalent. If you have lost the serial number, contact HP Support - it's really a service centre job to fix.
Unsurprisingly, adjusting the 'burnt in' serial number is not something a user is supposed to be able to do themselves, and any attempts at editing a device's flash memory are dangerous; you could finish up with a 'bricked' Pocket PC that won't start up at all.
